MTC-W BLOG Challenge # 1: What's Your TV Show? (Taking Advantage)

July 01, 2009

Taking Advantage: A journey of discovery

A sitcome displaying emotional struggles of a teenage girl living in the rich world of los angeles and realizing that she takes advantage of everything she has. She decides to journey accross the world to third world countries and keeps a journal of her experiences, adventures, and realizations. in turn she learns that life doesnt revolve around money and material objects. It revolves around community and friendships. On her trip she limits herself to barely any money and only stays in villages. She finds her happiness through emotional relationships and helping others rather than money and material objects.

Will it be a hit?:

it will be a hit because young teenagers, girls especially will be able to relate to the inner emotional hardships that the main character experiences. It will also give parents an insight to the teenage female mind and certain aspects that may affect their daughters.

The reason:

I chose this as a tv show because I can relate to these emotional harships not directly but in a less exaggerated form. I am human like everyone else in this world and have made mistakes. This show is all about making mistakes and then making ammends with yourself and those around you by showing that you understand your mistakes and that you are willing to make a difference on behalf of your understanding.

The Plot:

The beginning of the show will take place in LA and will show the main character taking advantage of everything. She will be the "hot topic" of LA and will be posted on billboards for Christina Swimwear's Via Brazil. During her journey she will be posting on Faze media website by FAZE Magazine, everyday about her adventures, hardships, and change. she a high class high-school and one teacher makes a difference, he talks about third world countries and she starts to take an interest. She then does research and, while grabbing a document from he rdad office she realizes there is a file on his computer that is her name is capitals. This file is a composition of all of the bad articles that were going to be posted about her greed and self indulgence. She realizes that her father had paid off the companies to not post these articles in newspapers or magazines. This hits her, and she decides to make use of her young life and travel to other countries while documenting her experiences in a journal on Faze Magazine's website. On her adventure she meets many people, experiences different cultures, and realizes that she doesnt even exist outside of north america, no body knows who she is, and this feeling overwhelmed her with joy. She can be herself and enojy small things like how important community is. The one material object she still holds on to is one of grave importance. It is the necklace that her father had got hand made at Fantasy Gem Art. This reminds her of her fathers very kind and caring character and how he tried to teach her the moral lessons she is beginnning to learn for herself now. While travelling she meets Craig Keilburger working with Free the Children, and gets herself involved with the group. Realizing how rewarding her efforts are she decides at the end of the series to continue working with them and travelling around the world to share her experiences and how much she has changed and learned to balance herself.

The largest sponsor of the show:

FAZE Magazine will be the main sponsor because the main character will be showing the website every episode of the series as the main place to document her adventures. FAZE magazine will have a special section to read these posts as the series goes on as if it were a reality tv show, this will involve more people with the site and with the show.

MTC-W Blog challenge #3 Free the Children photograph

July 19, 2009

This photo is perfect for a Free the children poster or campaign. It captures the intensity of the situation at hand and also shows us the primary reason as to why Free the Children bagan. Iqbal Masih was Craig Keilburger's inspiration; he was the reason why Craig (at the age of 12) decided to stand up against child slavery and in turn created Free the Children. This child was killed because he stood up for what he beleived in, which began an army. Youth and signifigant figures (oprahs angel network, Jane Goodal, Richard Gere etc.) rose up to take charge and help end child slavery by educating children in third world countries. This photo shows us a child who is torn, who had been taken advantage of and forced into slavery. It intruiges the reader to further explore who this child is. Not only does this photo have a history to it, but if it were to be on a poster and had a slogan and the website for Free the children, I would be compelled to further explore. The fact that it's black and white centres the focus on sadness; which draws people's attention in. They want to know why, especially when it is a child.

I also really enjoyed the videos on the Free the Children website, they were incredibly inspirational.

The Teen Show Project

July 15, 2009

This is such a cool thing to do everyone!

It's called the Teen Show Project and it is a two day improvization workshop and performance in Toronto ON.

The first day you meet the people you will be performing with on stage. You work on improv scenes and discuss how you will be setting up for the shownight and just practice different techniques. The second day you do the same thing but it becomes easier once you know the gorup you are working with, and then you perform in front of a live audience. Tickets are cheap too so your friends and family can come and watch ($2 for students and children and $5 for adults)

you can check it out on facebook or on their website:

Working at the Car Wash!

July 05, 2009

July 4th 2009

It was an absolutely beautiful day after a long week of thunderstorms and grey skies; I held a car wash to raise funds for Free the Children associated with Miss Teen Canada-World. As Miss Teen Ancaster-World I scheduled an over-the-phone interview with Mike Pearson, with the Ancaster News. An article was put in the Ancaster Newspaper on Friday July 3rd announcing my car wash and explaining the cause. The headline read "Miss Teen Ancaster comes clean with carwash", I had a couple of chuckles at the title myself. I also sold cupcakes ,that I had baked myself, for people as they waited to have their car cleaned. Luckily I was not on my own as my sister, best friends, and the rest of my family came by and took shifts helping sell cupcakes, hold signs, and wash cars. It was a great experience and I raised $390. I am planning on holding another carwash in two weeks right before the pageant for my last fundraiser. So thank you to everyone who helped, and come on down to Ancaster if you want your car to be squeaky clean. I will keep you posted!
